Friday & Saturday, September 22 - 23, 2017
Ginny Mutti is a self taught dyer. She have informally taught dyeing on several occasions over the years.
Ginny has experience with using synthetic dyes and with using natural dyes. There are wonderful effects one can get by dyeing and it can be a little daunting to know how to begin and how to be a responsible dyer when using chemicals, dyes, and even plant material that you can gather. Ginny wants dyeing to be fun but safe and properly done so that the colors are stable and worthy of any project.
Saturday, 1:30 to 4:30 pm
Instructor: Ginny Mutti
This class is design to give a basic overview of how to dye wool primarily with synthetic dyes and mostly using wool yarn but the information on dyes, techniques, and how to handle dyes and wool can easily be used on wool material for rug hookers or fleeces for spinners.
Natural dyeing will be discussed and the basic information can be applied to natural dyeing.
Participants will learn about different dyes for wool and how to prepare the wool for dyeing.
Dye equipment and safety will be discussed. Everyone will have a chance to prepare some yarn and will get the experience of seeing white wool magically turn into colors that sheep can only dream about. At the finish of the class one should have the knowledge of what dyes to use, how to use them safely, and how to treat the wool so that the dye is fast and the wool is not damaged.
$35 class fee + $6 materials fee.
