Renate Maie-Moskowitz

​Renate was born raised and trained in Germany in just about every textile tradition available at the time (spinning, weaving, embroidery, appliqué, knitting, sewing, lacemaking etc.) She researches the nearly extinct techniques of felt making, silk and sericulture production, and natural fiber processing, which she developed into a teaching pursuit at a very young age.

A Fulbright Scholarship in dance brought her to the USA in 1979 and 1980. For almost ten years she has created costumes for the Washington National opera under Placido Domingo’s artistic leadership. Ongoing is her teaching of fiber art workshops nationally and internationally to professional audiences, as well as consulting work at museums and creating performance art pieces. In equal measure, she has focused on educational programs at K-12 schools in the U.S. and abroad.
